Once again, San Jose State University has excelled in the U.S. News & World Report college rankings. The 2013 edition of “Best Colleges,” available now online, shows SJSU at ninth overall among the West’s top public universities offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees, up from 10th overall last year.

Starting September 1, 2012, there will be an increase in the current application fee. The application fee will increase from $100.00USD to $150.00USD. Applications, submitted starting September 1, 2012, will require the payment of $150.00USD, regardless of the enrollment term.

San Jose State University has received a $1.2 million federal grant to train Afghan professors to teach modern journalism. The effort will link San Jose State and Herat University in western Afghanistan for three years.

Table tennis is hot in the South Bay, including San Jose State, where the nationally ranked Spartan Table Tennis Club is preparing for national championships April 13-15 in Plano, Texas.

The National Collegiate Table Tennis Association is promising live online streaming of all the action, as the no. 4 ranked Spartans take the floor. SJSU’s co-ed team includes Truong Tu, ranked no. 8 in the nation for men’s singles.

International Gateways @ SJSU announced on October 31, 2011 that the curriculum for the popular Business and Professional Communication (BPC) course has become the core of a custom program in English for Specific Purposes: Business and Professional Communication.
