How do I know if I have a room?

The University Housing Office will send you a confirmation letter once you have been assigned a room.  The letter will include your room number, roommate information and instructions regarding check-in. This information will be sent to the email address you provided on your Living Preference form.

What if I do not get the occupancy type I requested?

You are assigned rooms based on your request and the availability at that time.  If you are not happy with your assignment you may be able to change rooms during the 3rd week of the term.

What is the check-in process?

Check-ins are done between 7pm and 10pm in the evening throughout the academic year. In August and January, special days and hours may apply. If you are arriving in San Jose mid-day, please notify us one week in advance of your arrival and we will arrange an earlier check-in time for you. If you request the early check-in and then are delayed so that you arrive in San Jose after 5pm, you will need to stay in a local hotel for one night. When you check-in, you will be given an access card and a room key. An RA will inspect your room with you and write down any damages to the room. When you check out, you will be charged for any new damages.

Where should I go to pay for my housing?

The Fall and Spring semester payment for CVB are due by June 15 and November 15 respectively. The University Housing (UHS) website will have updated information and exact dates.

If you are arriving mid-semester (October or March), your full payment is due the day after you check-in to Campus Village B.

My contract is ending. How can I extend my contract?

If you would like to extend your contract, go to the 2nd floor office and complete an inquiry form explaining your request.  They will process your request and then you will have to make a complete payment for the new contract dates.  Please go back to the Cashier Desk in 3-5 business days to complete the payment.

Do you have to attend or work at SJSU to live at Campus Village?

Yes. In order to qualify to live in Campus Village, you must be a student (SJSU, iGateways), staff or faculty member of San José State University.

How can I check-out of my room?

Just before your contract ends, you will receive a Cancellation Form from the University Housing Office. One week before you plan to check out, take your copy of the Cancellation Form you received from UHS and schedule a check-out appointment with your RA.  You should also tell the Residential Life Coordinator.   Check-out hours are between 7pm and 10pm in the evening.  If you are not able to check out during these hours, please make an appointment with your RA.

I have been charged a damage fee. Do I have to pay it?

Yes.  If you feel there is an error in these damage charges, please submit a letter to the University Housing Office and documentation to support this claim.  Appeals will only be handled in writing, no appointments or phone calls will be accepted. Charges will not be reversed while an item is in dispute; you are responsible for the full payment until the review is completed. At that time, if UHS finds that adjustments need to be made, any credits will be applied to your account. If you do not owe anything to SJSU, a refund will be issued.

Can I cancel my contract?

No, the License Agreement is for the entire contracted period. You may not break the housing contract unless you meet the specific criteria for cancellation.  A $100 fee is charged for all cancellations.  In some cases, you will be charged an additional cancellation fee equal to 30 days or one-month room fee.

What if I need to cancel my License Agreement contract before I move in?

You must submit the cancellation form to the Housing Office before July 17, 2012 for Fall 2012.
