San Jose State University opened its intensive English language program in 1975 to meet the needs of incoming international students.
Since that day, thousands of students from more than sixty countries have improved their English skills for academic, professional, or personal reasons. International Gateways now includes Semester at SJSU, MBA preparation, Active Communication in English as well as the long-standing Academic and Test Preparation program.
Studies in American Language, known as SAL, opened as the intensive English language program at San José State University in 1975.
